Audience profile for teen film: Kidulthood (Research)

What is a genre?

The term genre means category or type and is useful when discussing film because it helps to group or organise different films according to what they are about and what they look like. This helps producers to make and market their film to an audience.

Teens are a useful demographic to target when marketing a teen film, but this doesn't necessarily mean they're the ONLY audience.

Although teen films are intended to be watched by the ideal teenager, other groups of age are likely to share an interest in these particular films as they themselves find pleasure in watching them or the idea of conflict between parents between teenagers excite them. Therefore teen film represent teenagers but mostly are defined by the way they address a youthful audience. And so the people that share a liking in a teen film do in fact share similarities in lifestyle, personality and what they may like
