Analysis of title sequence- Se7en (Research)

Seven:

The movie Seven, is a great example in presenting a title sequence that meets the criteria and fits the purpose of making them.

The film stars Brad Pitt and Morgan freeman and the audience are shown directly in the title sequence an image of Brad Pitt which gives the audience an understanding of who to expect in the movie. As Brad Pitt is a well known liked actor people are more willingly and likely to carry on watching the rest of the film as they know who to expect.

Kyle Cooper, the director of the title sequence of Seven, gives the use of typography of using a handwritten film title to give an emphasis on the genre of the movie which is thriller. This is to emphasise on the character's diary which gives the audience an understanding of the mind of a serial killer who is obsessed with religion.

The title sequence also uses advance shots of film artefacts with imagery such as books and shadows which gives an idea of what it may look like to see shadow behind certain pages. This gives a strong impression of the genre of the film being horror and a mystery. Finally the use of sound play a huge role in the title sequence ans the use of diegetic sound such as the drilling noise and non- diegetic e.g. sound of wires zapping can cause the audience to be uncomfortable and automatically know that the film is a thriller.
