Target Audience Feedback (2)

Target Audience Feedback (1)

We asked a member of our target audience who was stereotypically a girl (Amina) as our movie is mainly addressed to that gender and she is also 18 years old which is roughly around the age we want to aim our movie at. Overall, she had given us excellent feedback after watching our title sequence and gave great comments on the particular aspects she had like in the way the characters are presented and by the use of camera work

After listening to Aminas feedback, it has given us the realisation that we have in fact presented a well edited high school movie title sequence and a better knowledge and a great insight in presenting different ideas when making a sequence. We also feel a lot better knowing that our hard work has been proven to be a success.

Skills learnt during project / reflection

What Have a I Learnt During the Project?

Throughout the weeks of filming and creating our title sequence i have learnt a lot of different skills, socially and technically

PLANNING PROCESS:

Before the actual making of our film, the planning and research process was a very crucial learning stage. I learnt how to express my views and opinions when it came to ideas for our own film, I also bettered my understanding of other peoples views and opinions of others. This is a very important process and skill that I think myself and everyone else in my group have highly developed.

FILMING PROCESS:
The filming process was generally the hardest process of the project for us and was the main aspect of the project for me as I was the main character and had to be in most of the scenes.

1. Time keeping is the very most important skill we have learnt during this project, within the first week of the project we did not manage our time effectively, which pushed our schedule backwards each week,

2. Organisation, throughout filming we learnt that being organised with props and clothing was crucial, managing my clothing was the most challenging aspect for me as the main character as if i wore different clothing on another day, it would interrupt the filming as I had to be wearing the same outfit, also, having equipment in the background whilst filming was another thing we realised was an issue.

Editing Process/Technical Process:
throughout the editing and technical process (such as creating music and the website) I have learnt how to use a large range of different types of applications such as garageband and Wix and weebly, I also learnt how to function an Apple mac I had never used one before the project.

But one of the biggest skill I have developed in general throughout the project is decision making and using initiative, figuring out the most effective and useful solution to our problems throughout the project, how to overcome natural issues such as tackling the weather when filming to how to overcome faulty equipment and wrong props/costume.

Message from the group

We done and finished our final edit on 06/03/15, within the time given and before the deadline. Now it's ready to be showcased at the cinema. We hope you all enjoy our high-school teen drama opening title sequence. We look forward to your feedback.

Editing - Finalising our title sequence

Today we started to conclude our title sequence by adding the final touches of editing. Jessica used the software application GarageBand to finalise our soundtrack and increase the sound where it needed to be increased, and then used the timer on her phone to calculate when to increase the sound so that it matched the footage.

finding sounds that suited our title sequence
We spent approximately 45 minutes of our lunch adding the remaining titles to our film. Adding the soundtrack and voice over to our footage continued after lunch, which involved a lot of file converting, rendering footage and embedding media into our FCP file.

audio converter was used to convert the MP3 music files to AICs

Editing - Making Titles in motion 2

Second Lesson:

We used this editing session to make our film's title, 'Mates'. We experimented different templates to find a suitable template that would look nice when introducing our title, but none of them satisfied us. The template we used for the title of our film was the same as the other titles. The title fades in, stays on screen for awhile, and then fades out. We placed the title of our film at the center of the screen to make sure our audience knows it's the title. We made the title larger than the other titles because it's the most important title, and decided to make it pink since this suits our website and blog style.

Towards the end of this session we began adding the titles to our film using Final Cut Pro. We created a new folder in Final Cut Pro and imported our titles. At this point, we just dragged and dropped the titles into the opening sequence.

Teacher's feedback

Our teacher Rebecca provided us feedback on our titles. She told us to keep the colours of our titles consistent. This is because we started by making the colours of each of our titles gender based - titles that contained a male name were given colours that were considered sterotypically "boy colours", such as blue. Titles that had a girls name were given colours that were considered sterotypically "girl colours", such as pink/purple. In response to Rebecca's feedback, we made the colours of our titles consistent (same colour). We didn't make each title a different colour based on gender. We decided to make all of our titles the same colour as the first few titles we made - a light mixture of pink and purple.

We finished the titles in the second lesson of that day. We spent part of the second lesson finishing the titles, approximately the first 15 minutes.

Editing - Making Titles in Motion 1

Date: 04/03/2015

Today, we began to create titles for our film using the software application known as Motion. All the shots and scenes for the opening sequence were in order, but we needed to create and add the titles to our film.

We chose a template where each letter for each title faded in slowly at half second intervals. The titles would be on screen for a short period of time then fade away again. After we chose our template, we experimented and discussed the different styles/fonts we could use for the titles. Eventually, we chose 'Microsoft Tai Le' - a simple style. Then, we discussed the colours we wanted the titles to be. We experimented different colours and tones. Eventually, we chose a mixture of light purple and a even lighter shade of purple. We used the 'color' circle/wheel tool to pick the colour for our titles.

Next, we began discussing where we wanted the titles to appear on screen. We decided the titles that show the name of the three main female characters should each appear at the bottom right-hand side of the screen. Titles of the main male character would appear at the bottom left-hand side of the screen. Titles that show the names of the people that were involved in the production of the film appear at the bottom center of the screen, such as director, producer, music supervisor, etc. Titles that show the name of minor characters appear at the centre, but on the right-hand side of the screen.

The titles were too thin and didn't have an option to make them bold. So we decided to add an outline to the title using the same colour as the title to make it appear as though it is bigger and bolder.

You can create an outline by using this tool. Go to the 'Style' option. The two things I circled in red are used to add an outline to make the titles appear thicker. First, tick the box that says 'outline'. Then click the drop down box to pick a colour for the outline.

Pictures of the rooms we used and could have used to film Kate's bed scene

These are pictures of the room we used to film Kate's bed scene. We chose to use this room because it has a feminine vibe to it. The walls and curtains are a light mixture of purple and pink - colours stereotypically found attractive by girls. Most girls are fans of stuffed cuddly animal toys. This makes the big cuddly and stuffed bear sitting on the bed appropriate for our film, more specifically the bed scene involving Kate. The room is clean and tidy which is sterotypically what people expect of a girls room.

There was another room we could have used when filming Kate's bed scene. It was also a good option, but we didn't use it. There are two pictures of the alternative room we could have used below:

Our Last Lesson:

In today's lesson, we had a great amount of finishing touches to do. This had consisted of creating our soundtrack for our title sequence on Garage Band, adding titles to our sequence by using Motion and finally adding a characters voice over. We are really happy about our outcome of today because it we have successfully finished and created a very well edited title sequence based on a high school teen drama.

My contribution/role

Throughout the past few weeks, our group have all played a major role in the making of our film. I didn't have much screen time in our film, but this doesn't mean I was able to relax and do nothing. I played a major role as the camera operator. I was responsible for operating the video camera in the making of our film. I had to maintain camera angles throughout a given scene/shot. However, I would collaborate with my group and refer to the storyboards before filming a shot. It wasn't an easy role. This is evident by the number of re-shots and the time it took to get the right shot that we were all happy with.

In the editing stages, each member of our group was given a role to focus on. I was responsible for creating the title sequences using 'Motion', a software used to create and edit motion graphics. As a group, we decided on the template, font, and colour. We collaborated to find a font that would be appropriate for our film. We chose light colours that are seen as feminine because our film  revolves around three girls. I had to ensure everyone in my group was happy with what I had chosen. Also, I had to ensure that everything was suitable for a high-school drama.
