Sub genre conventions.

Subgenre Conventions of a Youth Drama

The Youth Drama I have decided to analyse is Kidulthood.

Camera

-Title sequence starts with a closeup of a characters school shoes, playing football,
-followed by a midi shot/ focus of two significant characters (continued.)
- zooms into a characters hand handling some type of machinery (in a different scene.)
-goes back to the playground scene of one of the significant female characters on the phone (camera follows her on the phone whilst she walks.)
-focuses on other main character staring into the distance, probably at something or someone of significance.

Editing

-zoom of character playing football is slowed down.
-focuses on the main characters, whilst other characters are blurred and their actions are sped up, whilst characters in focus are slowed down.

Sound

-non diegetic sound- starts off with intense grime/grunge background instrumental,
-characters have London accents which shows audience where the drama is set.
-diegetic sound- school children in playground, chatter,

Mise en Scene

-Playground, school building, shows the setting of the movie
-Costume: school uniform, which also sets the scene of the movie. and shows the type of characters in the movie (youths/teenagers.)
