Macro conventions

Macro Conventions

The synthetics of a film include the location, characters and props, this is also known as the Macro conventions of a film, this is the stories a film tells and this along with the use of codes and conventions help the audience identity the genre/type of film they are watching.

Macro conventions focus on the larger themes in the film such as genre ,representation, audience institution and narrative. Age for example would come under the representation of the characters, for example in teen movie such as coming of age, all the of the main characters are represented to be youthful, (with all of the stereotypes of young male following behind) such as them being sex obsessed, against authority, but humorous. this is also shown in the narrative and storyline of the film, in this film adults are shown to be the antagonists of the storyline and the teenagers usually support the social stereotype of young males.
