43. Reflection

What went well:

The editing process went well. However, the filming process was unsuccessful and quite difficult as everyone had their own ideas for the film. This outburst of ideas collided and made it hard to film successfully.

What needs to be re-shot:

The establishing shots of the college need to be re-shot. This is because the shots were too shaky and unstable, which makes it hard for our audience to focus. This can be resolved by using a tripod, a stand that will help support the camera and keep the shots stable. We need to re-shoot the scenes of the main characters walking into college because the shots are inconsistent and each scene makes it appear like the characters are a different height, which outlines our inability to film consistently.

Successfulness of costumes choices:

Honestly, I don't think our choice of costumes was successful. This is because all the costumes are pretty ordinary and it's hard to get an idea of the characters personality or characteristics. Usually, high-school drama films outline or hint what a characters going to be like through their clothing. However, in our high-school drama film it's hard to grasp the characteristics of our characters through their clothing. For example, the character Annie in our film is intended to be a funny character, but this is not evident by what she wears and throughout the film the audience are unable to determine the characteristics of her and the other characters.

Successfulness of locations choices:

We chose to use the college (City and Islington) as the main location for our film. This was an essential location for our high-school drama film. However, we faced minor problems which involved students, entering and leaving college, getting caught in our shots. This led to us spending time waiting for the students to move and leave the shot, which meant we missed out on filming time. We didn't mind them being caught in some shots as this would create the realistic illusion of a high-school drama, but we had specific shots that were exclusive to our main characters and didn't want them to be in it.

What changes we need to make as we go along:

  • We need to change our choice of clothing to make them more suitable for our characters.
  • We need to re-shoot shaky scenes with a tripod to ensure it's less shaky and more stable.

Blogging Health-Check 2

Marked by Rebecca:

41 posts at health check 2.  An improvement on health check 1, which is reflected in your increase mark.  There is room for further development and further increase in marks through blogging off the checklist more and more frequently.  I really need you to go back and complete blog 28 (influential films) as this is really important for your research.  Make sure that you blog a minimum of three times a week until the end of the unit.

To improve I will need to go back and improve the (28) post mentioned here. Also I will try and correct anything in previous posts to ensure it is good enough - i.e. grammar, as well as photographs and embedded ICT

Feedback:

"I've just read your production diary entries and had a look at your blogging feedback. It's very good and really well kept and written - good work. You could add a little bit more detail though. Try and be as specific as you can in your comments - say exactly what you are happy with etc. Your account of changing the light that you are using is exactly the sort of thing I'm talking about. You should carry on keeping this sort of record in the same detail as you start editing. Think about and take notes on exactly what skills you are developing."

Production Diary no. 3

Today we shot Atiyah's character's bed scene, where she falls off the bed comically

We had a lot of issues with the lighting, such as how, realistically, it would suit the time of day the scene is meant to be shot (morning), and getting the right angle to film, however after a lot of thinking, we ended up switching camera-man roles, using the lamp instead of the ceiling light, to make it look more like an early morning scene, and only filmed using the tripod, so the shot would appear more proffessional - at the angle we can see in the image above.

We used several props in this scene to make the room appear more girly. These included:
Large teddy bear
Medium-sized desk teddy bear
Alarm clock
Make-up [Lipstick, eyeliner, eye-shimmer, nail vanishes]
Perfume bottle
Oyster and college ID cards
iPhone
Gold watch
flowery hair band
 White Earphones

We had to motive to film about 2 shots, but altogether shot around 3-4, as we imagined the scene - along with the rest of the title sequence would look too short, nonetheless we are really happy with what he have done so far.

Production Schedule [UPDATE]

Over the last 2 weeks, we've had some difficulties with filming footage and had issues with personal time-tables, so we have decided to make another Production Schedule - one that our group will stick to:

Production Diary no.2

Today we filmed some more shots. In total we filmed around 10-12 shots. Some of which included us:

As we were inside the toilet, looking at our phones/devices and checking our make-up

A shot from behind as we're all looking in the mirror

And us coming into college, and then tapping in with our student IDs

In order for Atiyah's character to look the same as the first shoots we did, we will ensure that in the next clips we film, she will have her hair tied back and wear the tartan scarf she wears here.
